Bucerias was once a small fishing village just to the northeast of Nuevo Vallarta. It has grown up some, but is still much quieter than Puerto Vallarta or Punta de Mita. The town does offer all the needed amenities to make your stay a pleasant one. Don’t expect large night clubs and lots of activities though. This is the perfect spot for someone looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Bucerias gets its name from the type of fishing that has been going on here for years. “Bucear”, the spanish word “to dive”. Fisherman dive for fresh oysters to sell on the beach and to many restaurants.
There are many markets to buy things like purses, clothing, decorations and more along the cobblestone streets of the town. It is a very colorful town. Literally some of the most colorful places can be found here. Resorts, shops and restaurants all painted in vibrant reds, yellows, greens, and more.
Bucerias can be easily accessed by bus or taxi, making it the perfect day trip.
